The Dark Knight returning to BFI IMAX to mark 10th anniversary

The Dark Knight

Story by Jack Foley

CHRISTOPHER Nolan’s seminal Batman film The Dark Knight is returning to the BFI IMAX for one week only in August 2018, to mark its tenth anniversary.

The film will be shown in a 70mm presentation, starting on Friday, August 24. Some of the dates are already on sale.

Nolan’s film was the first to shoot certain sequences in special IMAX cameras – a practice he continued in The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar and Dunkirk. And it remains a landmark moment in cinema, both in terms of the genre it represents and in making IMAX one of the go-to venues for fans of spectacular cinema.

Set in the wake of Batman’s emergence as Gotham’s unlikely saviour, the film picks up as the city finds itself on the brink of a new era. Organised crime is on the back foot, thanks to the dedicated triumvirate of Batman (Christian Bale), Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and committed new DA Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), and there is a renewed sense of hope about the future.

But just when they’re on the brink of a major breakthrough a new threat arises in the form of criminal mastermind The Joker (the late Heath Ledger), who plunges Gotham into chaos and forces Batman ever closer to crossing the line between hero and self-serving vigilante.
