The Perfect Candidate

Preview by Jack Foley

THE BFI Southbank is to host a special International Women’s Day Screening of The Perfect Candidate, the new film by Saudi film-maker Haifaa Al Mansour, on Sunday, March 8.

The film will be followed by a Q&A with director Haifaa Al-Mansour.

The Perfect Candidate premiered in competition at Venice Film Festival. It follows female doctor Maryam, as she runs in the municipal council elections, challenging the traditional patriarchal system that’s been in place since the birth of democracy in the region.

The film is a bold and politically charged exploration about what it means to be a woman in Saudi Arabia today, seeking to push forward a new era of women.

The Perfect Candidate is released in the UK on Friday, March 27, 2020.

Tickets for the International Women’s Day screening and Q&A cost £15, concs £12 (members pay £2 less) and are available on this link=
