The Wolf of Wall Street

Story by Jack Foley

MARTIN Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street has been named the most illegally downloaded movie of 2014.

The true-life tale of corrupt New York stockbrokers was followed by Disney’s smash hit Frozen.

Both films were downloaded around 30 million times by torrent users between January 1 and December 23, 2014, according to piracy-tracking firm Excipio.

The third most-pirated film was Sandra Bullock-George Clooney space drama Gravity, which came in just behind Frozen with 29.357 million downloads.

Other Oscar nominees in the top 20 included 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle and Captain Phillips.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the year’s highest grossing film, Marvel’s The Guardians of the Galaxy, was not on the list, speculating “perhaps because anyone interested in the film opted to see it in theaters”.
