Thomas Kretschmann to play villain in Agent 47

Story by Jack Foley

THOMAS Kretschmann, already playing the villain Baron Strucker in Marvel Studios’ The Avengers: Age of Ultron, has been signed up to play another, in Agent 47.

The actor, whose past credits include Valkyrie (pictured) and King Kong as well as – more recently – Abraham van Helsing on NBC’s Dracula series, will play Le Clerq in the sequel to the 2007 action movie Hitman.

Rupert Friend is playing the title character, having stepped in to replace the late Paul Walker, while Star Trek‘s Zachary Quinto is also on board as another villain.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kretschmann will play the chairman of an organisation called Syndicate International, which is set on creating an army of unstoppable agents.

The movie, which is based on the best-selling video game, is currently shooting in Berlin under the direction of Aleksander Bach.

Kretschmann is one of Germany’s biggest stars. He can currently be seen on the big screen in war epic Stalingrad and has also recently completed F2014, a drama that tells of the creation of the FIFA soccer federation in which he plays the founder of Adidas.
