Tim Burton to direct live-action Dumbo for Disney

Tim Burton directs Alice in Wonderland

TIM Burton is to direct a live-action remake of classic cartoon Dumbo for Disney.

The announcement continues the distributor’s recent trend for make live-action versions of its animated classics and follows in the wake of the forthcoming Cinderella.

Dumbo tells the tale of a baby circus elephant who is made fun of for his large ears and was released in 1941. It has since become one of Disney’s iconic cartoons.

Ehren Kruger, of Transformers franchise fame, has penned the script for Burton’s film, which will reportedly use a mix of CGI and live action to bring the classic elephant story to life.

Disney has so far enjoyed massive success with its live-action versions of classic tales, the most notable of which remains Burton’s re-imagined Alice in Wonderland, which grossed a staggering $1.02 billion and which has spawned a sequel that is currently in the works.

Burton was most recently in cinemas with Big Eyes and is currently is working on Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,
