Tom Cruise reveals Top Gun sequel name

Story by Jack Foley

THE sequel to Top Gun will be called Top Gun: Maverick, according to leading man Tom Cruise.

The actor revealed the name in an interview with Access Hollywood on Friday, while he was promoting his current release, The Mummy.

The follow-up to Tony Scott’s 1986 classic will follow fighter pilots as they grapple with new drone technologies that are making their old style of flying obsolete.

Cruise only recently confirmed that the film will shoot within a year, while Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski is circling the project. Jerry Bruckheimer is returning to produce the sequel.

The original film, which starred Cruise as hot-shot pilot Maverick, was directed by the late Tony Scott.

No release date for the sequel has yet been set.
