Tom Hardy and Michael Shannon for The Long Red Road

Warrior, Tom Hardy

Story by Jack Foley

TOM Hardy and Michael Shannon are to star alongside each other in a big screen adaptation of theatre hit The Long Red Road.

According to Variety, Hardy is reprising his role as Sam in Brett C. Leonard’s play of the same name, while Shannon is on board to play his older brother.

The story focuses on Sam as he attempts to drink away his demons on an Indian reservation in South Dakota until a visitor from his past arrives, forcing him to take a hard look at the man he’s become and the life he left behind.

In theatre form, Philip Seymour Hoffman directed the play when it premiered at the Goodman Theater in Chicago in 2010. As yet, it is not known whether Hoffman will be involved in the big screen transfer.

Hardy was recently crowned one of Hollywood’s new A-list actors by The Hollywood Reporter following successful performances in Warrior, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.

He’ll next be seen in Lawless and is currently filming George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

Shannon is a regular on Boardwalk Empire and will next be seen alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Premium Rush and in the role of General Zod in Man of Steel next summer.
