Tom Hardy to play Elton John in Rocketman biopic
Story by Jack Foley
TOM Hardy is to play Elton John in a new biopic.
According to Variety, Rocketman will chronicle the legendary singer’s life story, starting with his childhood as a five-year-old musical prodigy.
Commenting on the announcement, FilmDistrict’s Peter Schlessel said of Hardy: “Tom is quickly becoming known as one of the world’s most versatile actors, and like others at the top of their craft, he has proven his ability to transform himself completely into the character or subject found in the material.
“We are confident that Tom will embody the physicality and spirit of Sir Elton. This, in conjunction with the creative team led by Michael and Rocket Pictures, will provide the foundation for something that will be a unique cinematic event.”
Commercials man Michael Gracey will direct from a script by Lee Hall (of War Horse fame). Sir Elton also plans to re-record many of his hit songs for the film.
Shooting on Rocketman is due to commence next autumn.
Gracey, meanwhile, has recently directed Fox’s The Greatest Showman On Earth with Hugh Jackman as well as Disney’s The Muppet Man.
