Story by Jack Foley

TOM Hardy is in final negotiations to star in Venom, Sony’s Spider-Man off-shoot.

To be directed by Ruben Fleischer, of Zombieland, from a script by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner (the latter of whom worked on 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the film will focus on one of Spider-Man’s signature villains.

However, plot details are being kept firmly under wraps. Hardy, who is said to be a Venom fan, will play Eddie Brock, the character who first became Venom.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is one of Sony’s top priorities with the studio having already set a release date of October 5, 2018. The film forms a key part of the distributor’s plan to usher in a host of movies from Sony’s Marvel and Spider-Man-based universe of characters.

First up, of course, is this summer’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, with Venom next in line.

The character has been one of Marvel’s top villains since he was first introduced in 1988. He was created by writer David Michelinie and artists Todd McFarlane and Mike Zeck.

The character is an alien symbiote that needs a human host to survive. In return, the alien vests its victim with incredible powers.

He has already made a big screen appearance in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, when he was played by Topher Grace.

Also in development by Marvel and Sony is a Silver Sable/Black Cat project.
