Tom Hiddleston joins Guillermo Del Toro's Crimson Peak

TOM Hiddleston has joined the cast of Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak.

The British actor, best known for playing Loki in Thor and The Avengers, is replacing Benedict Cumberbatch in the gothic film.

Based on a script that was co-written by Del Toro, Matthew Robbins and Lucinda Coxon, the film follows a woman who discovers that her husband may not be whom he appears to be.

Hiddleston joins a cast that already includes Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Hunnam.

Shooting is due to begin in January 2014.

Hiddleston will next be seen reprising his role as Loki in Marvel sequel Thor: The Dark World.

He will also be seen in Muppets Most Wanted next year.
