Story by Jack Foley

TONY Jaa is to co-star in Fast & Furious 7.

The Thai action star is hitherto best known for his Ong Bak movies but should bring even more muscle to the star-studded franchise.

Jason Statham is already on board as the latest villain, while James Wan is directing – marking his first major move away from the horror genre.

Jas’s part remains unknown, especially since the script is still being finalised.

But speaking to The Hollywood Reporter via email from Thailand, Jaa said of his involvement: “I have been a big fan of the Fast and Furious franchise. The films are fast-paced, fun and keep the audience involved. There is a great mix of humor and action, something I really appreciate. There is no better film to be involved in for a first US studio production.”

The film will mark his English-language debut.

Jaa is a stuntman-turned-actor who spent his youth as an elephant herder.

After deciding to follow in the footsteps of his idols, such as Jackie Chan and Jet Li, he made three Ong Bak films, which became global hits and enabled Jaa to be considered a symbol of national pride in his home country.

Shooting on the seventh instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise is due to commence in September in time for the release date of July 11, 2014.
