Top Gun 2 definitely happening with Joseph Kosinski a potential director

Story by Jack Foley

TOM Cruise has confirmed that Top Gun 2 is definitely going ahead – and could start shooting within the next year.

Speaking while promoting his latest film, The Mummy, on a press tour in Australia, the actor excitedly said: “It’s true. It’s true. I’m going to start filming it probably in the next year. I know. It’s happening. It is definitely happening … you’re the first people that I’ve said this to.”

The claim was made on the Australian morning show Sunrise.

And in related news, The Hollywood Reporter believes that the Top Gun sequel could see Cruise reuniting with his Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski.

It is believed that Kosinski heads the shortlist of contenders, ahead of the likes of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales co-director Joachim Ronning, given his track record for bringing ’80s remakes to the big screen – he helmed 2010’s Tron: Legacy.

Kosinski also just wrapped production on real-life firefighter drama Granite Mountain, starring Miles Teller and Taylor Kitsch.
