Universal gears up for fifth Fast & Furious movie

A FIFTH installment of Fast and Furious is being fast-tracked into development.

According to Variety, Universal Pictures has locked down deals with stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, as well as director Justin Lin and producer Neal Moritz, to return to the franchise.

Lin directed the third instalment, Tokyo Drift, and the fourth – the latter of which proved Universal’s biggest grossing movie of 2009 with more than $350 million world-wide.

Chris Morgan is writing the latest chapter, tentatively named Fast Five, which will find the leading men Dom (Diesel) and Brian (Walker) being pursued by relentless lawmen as fugitives.

Lensing is due to begin later this year for release in 2011.

The success of Fast & Furious had already made the propsect of a fifth film a distinct possibility, with cast members keen to talk up the prospects during a London junket for the fourth movie.
