Vera Farmiga joins Beach Boys biopic The Drummer

Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick, Up In The Air

Story by Jack Foley

VERA Farmiga is to play Fleetwood Mac member Christine McVie in The Drummer, a new biopic about Beach Boys co-founder Dennis Wilson.

She will line up alongside Aaron Eckhart, who will play Wilson.

Randall Miller and Jody Savin, the team behind indie Bottle Shock, are respectively directing and writing the movie, which will tackle the last six years of Wilson’s life prior to his death in 1983.

At that point, the singer-songwriter released his acclaimed solo album Pacific Ocean Blue.

Farmiga, a classically trained pianist who is best known for screen credits including Up In The Air and Source Code, will sing and play the piano in the film.

Savin’s screenplay is expected to explore the ‘fiery and torurous’ relationship between Wilson and McVie after the latter’s divorce from Fleetwood Mac guitarist John McVie.

The band’s 1982 hit Hold Me was co-written by Christine McVie and was inspired by her time with Wilson.

Shooting on the movie is expected to begin in June 2012.
