VERA Farmiga has landed the female lead opposite Robert Downey Jr. in The Judge.

Directed by David Dobkin, the dramedy follows a successful attorney who returns to his hometown for his mother’s funeral only to discover that his estranged father (Robert Duvall), the town’s judge, is the suspect of a murder.

Setting out to uncover the truth, he also finds himself reconnecting with the family he walked away from years before.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Farmiga will play a waitress who has a history with Downey’s character.

Farmiga, who was nominated for an Oscar for her work in 2009’s Up In The Air, is currently riding high off the rave reviews she has received for her performance as Norman Bates’ mother in TV series Bates Motel.

The show, co-starring Freddie Highmore as a young Norman Bates, received its US premiere on Monday, nabbing 3 million viewers to become A&E’s highest rated premiere.

On the big screen, Farmiga will next be seen starring alongside Patrick Wilson in horror movie The Conjuring.
