VIN Diesel has confirmed that an eighth film in the Fast & Furious franchise will be released on April 14, 2017.

The actor held back the tears as he appeared at Universal’s CinemaCon panel in Las Vegas on Thursday (April 23, 2015) to break the news.

“It means a lot to me to get your blessing,” he told the assembled cinema owners before recalling how he and the late Paul Walker had appeared on the same stage at Caesars Palace two years ago to reveal plans to move forward on a seventh film in the action franchise.

“We were giddy and excited,” he recalled. “You all gave me so much confidence. There was so much love.”

Walker subsequently died in a car crash in 2013 midway through filming the seventh film. But while production was delayed as a result, Fast & Furious 7 was released in cinemas world-wide earlier this month and has since become the fastest film to reach $1 billion in cinema history.
