Watchmen take over London Bridge venue (2009)

Watchmen, London event

Story by Jack Foley

PARAMOUNT Pictures UK, Future Cinema and Nokia hosted a spectacular Watchmen event under the archways of London’s cavernous SeOne Club on Thursday, March 5 (2009) to mark the release of Zack Snyder’s blockbuster.

The entire London Bridge venue was beautifully transformed into an alternative New York where Watchmen characters including Dr Manhattan, The Comedian and Rorschach were recreated in the flesh.

The sell-out event was brought to life by Future Cinema, the creators of Secret Cinema, famed for ground-breaking cinematic experiences, fusing feature film with live action performance, music and theatre.

An exclusive screening of the film followed the live performance, introduced by Watchmen co-creator and illustrator Dave Gibbons.

The crowds also enjoyed music from the Brick Lane Boogie Boys in a mock 50s diner and an after-show party with English punk band Gallows.

Commenting afterwards, Gibbons said: “I loved Future Cinema’s vision – the event was an enthusiastic and noisy kaleidoscope of characters and themes from the movie.”

Fabien Riggall, founder and creative director of Future Cinema, added: “Future Cinema was hugely proud to create this very special event for Watchmen. Working with our partners Paramount Pictures UK, Nokia and Smirnoff, we were able to bring the graphic novel and film to life in spectacular style.”
