Will Kristen Stewart be dropped for Snow White sequel?

Snow White & The Huntsman

Story by Jack Foley

KRISTEN Stewart may be dropped from Universal’s Snow White & The Huntsman sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

According to sources quoted by the trade magazine, the studio is now pursuing the option of a solo Huntsman movie starring Chris Hemsworth.

Although it is far from decided whether Snow White & The Huntsman will get any kind of sequel in light of the current situation involving Stewart and her affair with director Rupert Sanders, the studio is keen to see a follow-up movie of some kind.

The first film grossed $389.2 million world-wide on a budget of about $170 million and seemed set for a sequel earlier this summer, prior to the affair revelations.

It is thought that Universal was initially seeking to do two more films involving the Snow White character with possibly a third involving the huntsman by himself, thereby creating a franchise in the mould of the X-Men movies.

The screenwriter of the original, David Koepp, is also in the process of being dropped with the search now reportedly on for a new writer to take any sequel into its new direction.

If the reports are true, then Universal would seek to start shooting in July when Hemsworth – who is also committed to the Thor sequel – becomes available.

A spokeswoman for Universal would only comment: “The studio is currently exploring options to continue the franchise.”
