Story by Jack Foley

WILL Smith, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto are to head the cast of superhero movie Suicide Squad.

David Ayer, of Fury and End of Watch fame, is writing the script as well as directing the DC Comics venture, which will see a number of well-known comic book villains being forced to work together in a Dirty Dozen-style mission designed to clear their names.

Smith will play Deadshot, best known as a Batman villain, while Hardy plays the group’s leader, Rick Flagg.

Leto will become the first actor since the late Heath Ledger to play The Joker, while Robbie will play Harley Quinn, his on-and-off girlfriend.

A Good Day To Die Hard star Jai Courtney will be Boomerang, while Cara Delevingne, the model-turned-actress who is also in Warners’ Pan blockbuster, will play Enchantress, a sorceress.

Greg Silverman, president, creative development and worldwide production at Warner Bros said in a statement: “The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote Training Day and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara.

“We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”

The movie has a release date of August 5, 2016.
