Wolverine sequel gets July 2013 release date

Hugh Jackman in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Story by Jack Foley

THE long-awaited Wolverine sequel has been given a July 23, 2013, release date in the US.

Twentieth Century Fox confirmed that The Wolverine, the follow-up to 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine will now come out on the same date as Kenny Ortega’s Dirty Dancing remake and Disney’s big-screen version of its popular cartoon, Phineas and Ferb.

While those two films won’t be seen as direct competitors, Universal’s untitled sci-fi Tom Cruise movie (formerly known as Horizons and Oblivion) could be when it opens a week earlier.

Wolverine will see Hugh Jackman reprise his signature role as the title character, under the direction of James Mangold. As previously reported, the story will be set in Japan.
