Woody Harrelson in talks for Han Solo spin-off movie

Story by Jack Foley

WOODY Harrelson is in talks to join the Han Solo spin-off movie.

According to Variety, the actor is being courted to play a mentor role in the still untitled prequel, set before Star Wars: A New Hope.

Alden Ehrenreich has already been cast in the lead role, thereby stepping into the boots made iconic by Harrison Ford, while other confirmed cast members include Donald Glover, who will play a young Lando Calrissian, and Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke as Solo’s love interest.

The plot will focus on the early years of Solo and how he and his comrades in adventure – including Chewbacca – became ‘scoundrels on the rise’.

Harrelson is no stranger to franchise film-making, having previously played a similar mentor role in The Hunger Games series. He also recently starred in his second Now You See Me film.

He was most recently seen in the critically-acclaimed coming-of-age teen drama The Edge of Seventeen and is generating festival buzz for his performance as former US President LBJ in the biopic of the same name.

Star Wars continues to be a lucrative proposition for Disney following the successful release of first spin-off, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story before Christmas. That film, directed by Gareth Edwards, has already made over $800m at the global box office in less than a month.

This year sees the launch of Star Wars: Episode VIII, which will follow on from the events of The Force Awakens.
