THE long in the works sequel to World War Z could finally go into production in 2019 with Brad Pitt once again taking the lead.

According to Empire and trade magazine Variety, the film is set to go into production next summer with David Fincher reuniting with Seven star Pitt to direct.

Producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner told Variety: “We’re starting to shoot in June. What more do you need to know? Brad Pitt is Gerry Lane, he’s back… David Fincher is directing.”

What’s more, Dennis Kelly – of Utopia and Black Sea fame – is working on the script. However, the producing duo did concede that the current version isn’t quite there yet.

“We’re still working on the script,” they added. “But he’s done an amazing job and it’s going to be great.”

If production remains on schedule, then World War Z will start shooting a full seven years after the Marc Forster-directed original.

It will also mark Fincher’s first film project since 2014’s Gone Girl, with the director spending the intervening years show-running and directing episodes of Netflix’s Mindhunter.
