Zac Efron lines up Swedish drug movie Snabba Cash
Story by Jack Foley
ZAC Efron will star in and produce a remake of Swedish thriller Snabba Cash.
The film will find the former High School Musical star playing a financial wizard who tries to strike it rich by creating money laundering schemes for a drug syndicate, according to Variety.
It’s based on a 2006 novel by Jens Lapidus which took the form of three interlocking stories set in Stockholm about a group of friends who become involved with drugs and organized crime.
Daniel Espinosa directed the Swedish movie version, while Joel Kinnaman portrayed the lead character as a taxi driver and cocaine runner.
Interest in remaking Snabba Cash – which translates as “easy money” – has stepped up following the success of another Swedish crime thriller, Stieg Larsson’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which is also in the process of being remade for American audiences.
