Zac Efron to play serial killer Ted Bundy

Charlie St Cloud

Story by Jack Foley

ZAC Efron is to play the notorious serial killer Ted Bundy in a new film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile will be told from the perspective of Elizabeth Kloepfer, Bundy’s long-time girlfriend.

Kloepfer initially refused to believe the allegations but later reported him to the police.

Bundy was subsequently executed in Florida in 1989 after confessing to the sexual assault and murder of more than 30 women.

The film will be directed by Joe Berlinger, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind the Paradise Lost documentaries, about the West Memphis Three, and Some Kind of Monster, about the heavy metal band Metallica.

Principal photography on the film is due to commence in October.

The role would mark a radical departure from Efron’s most recent material, which has mostly extended to R-rated comedies such as Bad Neighbours and Dirty Grandpa. He will also shortly be seen in the Baywatch movie.

But having established himself in High School Musical, he did venture towards more dramatic material with acclaimed roles in the dramas Me & Orson Welles and The Death and Life of Charlie St Cloud.
