ZAZIE Beetz, the breakout star of hit comedy show Atlanta, has been cast as Domino in the upcoming Deadpool sequel.

Ryan Reynolds made the announcement via Twitter, with the caption “Domino Effect.”

According to Marvel’s comic book mythology, Domino is a mercenary who mostly works on the side of the good guys.

She actually made her debut in the same issue as Deadpool himself (1991’s New Mutants No. 98) and is another survivor of a government program to create the ultimate soldier. Her power is that she can affect probability itself, creating “good luck” for herself and those around her.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s producers were specifically looking to cast a black or Latina actress in the role of Domino.

Beetz is hitherto best known for playing Van in Donald Glover’s award-winning FX series Atlanta, where she has emerged as a fan favourite. She will soon be seen in Chance the Rapper’s horror-comedy Slice.

Deadpool 2 will be directed by David Leitch (of John Wick fame), with original Deadpool scripters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returning to pen the follow-up, along with The Martian writer Drew Goddard.
