Zoolander 2 and Batman V Superman lead Razzies 2017 nominations

Zoolander 2

Story by Jack Foley

BEN Stiller’s Zoolander 2 and Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice lead the nominations for the Golden Raspberry awards, aka The Razzies.

The former boasts nine nominations, including worst picture, worst actor and supporting actor for Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, as well as one for the pair as a “screen combo”. Stiller gets another personal nod as worst director.

DC’s Batman v Superman is just one behind with eight, including worst picture. Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are both shortlisted for worst actor, while Jesse Eisenberg makes the worst supporting list for his performance as Lex Luthor.

The organisers of this year’s awards, the 37th, said 2016 was an exceptional year for terrible films.

A statement read: “The crop of cinematic crap in 2016 was so extensive that this year’s awards is expanding from five nominees to an unprecedented six contenders.”

Those six films further include Dirty Grandpa, starring Robert De Niro and Zac Efron; Gods of Egypt, Gerard Butler’s mega-flop; Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party, an agit-prop documentary starring Dinesh D’Souza, and Independence Day: Resurgence.
