Mulberry Street celebrates sale of six £350 Beluga King pizzas

THE owners of Mulberry Street Pizzeria, the authentic New York-style neighbourhood pizzeria in Notting Hill, were celebrating the sale of six of its speciality pizzas in just 10 days this week (June 9-13, 2008)… at £350 a pop!
The popular pizzeria, which was recently rated by The Times newspaper as offering the best Pizza in the south east, is fast becoming renowned for its house special, the Beluga King, a 20” New York pizza topped with Beluga caviar.
And while the price tag seems reserved for the Knightsbridge elite, it seems that nothing can deter customers from savouring this mouthwatering treat.
Indeed, one well-heeled couple washed their deluxe meal down with Louis Roederer Cristal at £250 per bottle – taking their bill to in excess of £600 (over £300 per head, which is more than many Michelin starred eateries.)
Restaurant owner Maria O’Connor put the recent rush for the pizza down to word of mouth, saying: “The recent popularity of our most expensive pizza seems to show that Notting Hill’s clientele are not frightened of a credit crunch.”
And due to the recent high demand, Mulberry will now be offering the Beluga King by the slice for £60.
Launched in Spring 2007 by local resident Maria O’Connor, Mulberry Street is London’s only New-York style Neighbourhood Pizzeria with a fast, intoxicating atmosphere, open galley kitchen and 100 seats over two floors – with booths that can seat up to 16 people.
All pizzas are the traditional New York size of 20 inches and prices start at just £15.99! The venue is often described by locals as ‘Gucci Pizza’ (for their huge matt black pizza boxes).
The Beluga King is officially the UK’s most expensive pizza. The 20 inch dish is prepared with Mulberry’s secret home-made dough, using specially filtered water that matches that used in Manhattan. The pizza is then topped with Italian mozzarella, chopped onion, egg and of course Beluga caviar.
Mulberry Street now offers a free local delivery service. Customers can either order by phone or online and are sent an SMS message letting them know when their order has left the building.
