Air announce UK tour

Story by Jack Foley

FRENCH duo Air return to the UK in March for a series of live dates in support of their new album, Pocket Symphony.

Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel will be playing the following shows (all March):

14 – Glasgow ABC
15 – Manchester Academy
16 – London Forum

Air will then tour throughout Europe, which will be followed by shows in the US at the beginning of May. They will play at major festivals both in Europe and Japan during the summer and then continue touring for the rest of 2007.

Pocket Symphony is the fourth studio album proper and the follow up to 2004’s Talkie Walkie. It’s co-produced by long time collaborator Nigel Godrich.

Despite being a distinct step away from orthodox pop modes, Pocket Symphony is described as a return to some of Moon Safari’s pastoral atmospherics.

Nicolas puts it thus: “This album is different. We decided to go back to the soundtrack music-style, with more instrumentals and less songs.”

And yet paradoxically, it’s a far cry from the series of Top 20 pop hits they enjoyed in 1998, with clear notes of minimalism among the clingy hooks and deceptively complex piano lines.

Pocket Symphony is due for release on March 5 with the single, Once Upon A Time, following a week later on March 12.
