Alicia Keys and Jack White to record new Bond theme
Story by Jack Foley
R&B singer Alicia Keys is to unite with rocker Jack White to record the theme tune to the next James Bond film, Quantum of Solace.
The song, named Another Way To Die, will be the first duet in 007 history and should provide an interesting contrast of styles. Keys is best known for the single Fallin, while White has found considerable success with both The White Stripes and The Raconteurs.
The official announcement of the theme song now puts an end to months of speculation surrounding who would be asked to do the job, with names including Amy Winehouse, Duffy or even Leona Lewis touted as possibilities.
Winehouse had seemed like the likeliest contender as she’d reportedly been working with producer Mark Ronson on a theme – although this was scrapped amid comments by Ronson that she was not ready to record it.
But the new collaboration promises a unique blend of soulful vocals and raw blues-rock and is co-written and produced by White (who also plays drums).
The film’s producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli commented: “We’re delighted and pleased to have two such exciting artists as Jack and Alicia.”
They added that the Grammy-winning US musicians “were inspired by our film to join together their extraordinary talents in creating a unique sound for Quantum of Solace“.
The theme to the last James Bond film, Casino Royale, was recorded by US rocker, Chris Cornell – although it divided fans over its merits.
