Amy Winehouse makes US chart history

Amy Winehouse

Story by Jack Foley

AMY Winehouse has made US chart history by becoming the highest debuting British female artist for her album Back To Black.

The album has entered the Billboard Hot 100 album chart at no. 7 – an achievement made all the more remarkable when you consider Amy only played her first US shows in a tiny pub in New York in January of this year (2007).

Her appearance on the David Letterman show in New York last week and two completely locked-out New York and LA shows, have helped establish Amy as the hottest new artist in the US.

The phenomenal success in the US mirrors the excitement surrounding Amy in the UK, where Back To Black is fast approaching triple-platinum status.

At last month’s Brit Awards, where she was also crowned Best British Female.

Amy is currently on tour in the US and will be back performing in the UK throughout the summer.

Amy had this to say after being woken at 8am in a Los Angeles hotel roomby her manager with the good news.

“You’re kidding…. bloody hell. I’m really proud of this record ….the highest what… really…..that’s unbelievable….”
