Andersson and Ulvaeus to participate in London Abba concert

Mamma Mia: The Movie (London premiere)

Story by Jack Foley

BENNY Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus – the songwriting duo behind Abba – are to take part in a concert featuring some of their biggest hits in London later this year.

Thank You For The Music… A Celebration Of The Music Of Abba is to take place in Hyde Park on September 13, when a succession of guest vocalists will perform songs from the seminal Swedish band’s back catalogue.

Confirming their participation in the Radio 2 hosted event, a joint statement by Benny and Bjorn revealed: “This must be the greatest honour that can be bestowed on any songwriter. We are absolutely delighted and we hope thousands of Radio 2 listeners will join us there.”

The line-up for the show is yet to be announced, although it follows persistent online rumours of a possible Abba reunion at London’s O2 Arena in place of some dates that Michael Jackson would have played.

Andersson has strenuously denied this to be true, however, insisting that he’d not been approached and wouldn’t say “yes” even if they were in the future.

The quartet were last seen together at the Swedish premiere of Mamma Mia!, the movie based on their back catalogue. View photos
