Bestival 2007: Beastie Boys and Chemical Brothers to headline

The Beastie Boys in Awesome

Story by Jack Foley

THE Chemical Brothers and The Beastie Boys have been confirmed as the headline acts for this year’s Bestival Festival, taking place at Robin Hill Country Park in Newport on the Isle of Wight between September 7 and 9, 2007.

Now in its fourth year, Bestival is well known for its unique creativity, innovation and cheekiness.

Not only does Bestival deliver a diverse array of bands, DJs and performances, curated by Rob da Bank, but it’s becoming renowned for eye-catching bespoke arenas and the delectable designs of Josie da Bank.

The Chemical Brothers will be headlining the Friday night slot and the mighty Beastie Boys will reign on Saturday. And there will also be performances from Mr Hudson & The Library, The Orb, Billy Bragg and The Maccabees.

After spending the last few months in the studio working on their much anticipated next album, The Chemical Brothers will be firing on all cylinders.

Ed Simons, of the Chemical Brothers, commented: “We’re very excited to be playing at Bestival. It was the best party I went to last summer, I can’t believe we haven’t done it yet, we’re going to rock the house!”

The Beastie Boys’ headline slot on the Saturday will be their only festival in England.

Curator Rob da Bank commented: “I can’t believe we’re about to launch the fourth Bestival and I’m as excited as ever about the acts we’ve got on board already and the hundreds more to come.

“We’re the only English festival to get the Beastie Boys and I can’t wait to see the fancy dress loonies po-going along to No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn.

“Friday headliners The Chemical Brothers are old favourites of all of us at Bestival HQ and their new tunes are miles ahead of everyone else as usual.

“As for the Sunday headliner, well you’ll just have to wait but it’ll be worth it (and yes I do know who it is!).”

Further appearances will come from festival stalwarts The Levellers, to legends such as Gregory Isaacs and Billy Bragg, not forgetting DJ supremos François K and David Holmes and hotly tipped acts such as The Maccabees, Bonde de Role and Mr Hudson & The Library.

Away from the music, there’ll be munch fantastic food stuff, a Boutique Campsite, Bollywood Cocktail Bar and a Come Dancing Tent.

Not to mention Swim to Bestival, a bracing charity swim across the Solent with Navy lifeguards on hand in case you get a bit knackered.
