Blur announce Hyde Park gig and new album, The Magic Whip

Story by Jack Foley

BLUR have announced their first studio album as a four-piece in 16 years, as well as a London date in Hyde Park this summer (2015).

The band, who got back together for a pair of reunion shows in the park six years ago, will headline the British Summer Time festival on June 20, 2015, as part of a series of concerts that also includes shows by Taylor Swift, Kylie Minogue and The Who.

Tickets go on sale on Friday, February 27 at 9am.

The new album will be called The Magic Whip and is influenced by the band’s time in the Far East.

Indeed, the band started recording the album itself in Hong Kong when a gig was cancelled.

Speaking at a news conference in London, lead singer Damon Albarn confirmed that one song was about time he spent in North Korea, saying: “It’s my impression of the place, in a very abstract veiled way. When you listen to it is pretty self explanatory what it’s about.”

The album will be released on April 27, 2015.
