Brit Award nominations 2006

Kaiser Chiefs

Story by Jack Foley

THE KAISER Chiefs (pictured) and James Blunt have emerged as the leading contenders for honours at the 2006 Brit Awards.

Both acts have five nominations each following ultra-successful breakthroughs in 2005.

The Kaiser Chiefs released their debut album, Employment, which spawned the singles I Predict A Riot, Everyday I Love You Less & Less and Modern Way, while James Blunt’s You’re Beautiful became one of the biggest sellers of the year and helped turn his debut album, Back To Bedlam into one of the biggest LPs (despite having been released in 2004).

They will find out whether they have won at the glittering awards ceremony on February 15 at London’s Earl’s Court but they face stiff competition from the likes of Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, Hard-Fi and Gorillaz.

Kaiser Chiefs are nominated in the British Group, MasterCard Album, Breakthrough Act, Live Act and Rock Act categories, while James Blunt is up for British Male Solo Artist, MasterCard Album, Pop Act, Breakthrough Act and Best Single.

Coldplay, who released X&Y last year, are nominated in four categories – Best Album, Best British Group, Best Single (Speed of Sound) and Best British Live Act.

The Outstanding Contribution To Music Award will be presented to Paul Weller, who is rumoured to be performing with Oasis at the ceremony itself.

Other acts due to perform at the Earl’s Court bash are Coldplay, Kaiser Chiefs, James Blunt, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson and KT Tunstall.
