Brit Awards 2007 - Lily Allen & Muse lead nominations

Lily Allen

Story by Jack Foley

LILY Allen leads the nominations for the Brit Awards 2007 after securing four nods including British female solo artist and British album for her debut Alright, Still.

The singer was also nominated for best British breakthrough act, and best British single for Smile – an award that’ll be decided by public text messages during the awards.

Other acts to secure multiple nominations included rockers Muse and US dance act Gnarls Barkley, both who have three nominations each.

Muse are up for best British group, best British album (Black Holes & Revelations) and best British live act, while Gnarls Barkeley duo Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse are up for best international group, best album and breakthrough act.

Corinne Bailey Rae, James Morrison and Snow Patrol also scored three nominations – the latter for best single (Chasing Cars), best British album (Eyes Open) and best British group.

They will be pitted in the latter category against the likes of Kasabian and the Arctic Monkeys, both of whom secured dual nominations along with Amy Winehouse.

Kasabian are also up for best British live act, while the Arctic Monkeys are in the running for best British album (for Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not).

Amy Winehouse is nominated for British Female Solo Artist and Best British Album (for Back To Black).

The British single award is the event’s first live vote and of the 11 singles shortlisted (see below), a final five will be picked out by commercial radio listeners in the build up to the event.

The Brit Awards will be held at London’s Earls Court on February 14 (Valentine’s Day) and will be presented by Russell Brand.

Artists confirmed to perform live at the ceremony are Snow Patrol, Scissor Sisters, The Killers, Take That, Corinne Bailey Rae, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Amy Winehouse and Oasis.

An Outstanding Contribution To Music Award will be presented to Oasis at the ceremony.
