BRITNEY Spears is to play a number of concerts at London’s O2 Arena next year (2009), which will form the only European shows on her world tour.

The pop star will play the prestigious London venue on June 3 and 4, 2009, and then from June 10 to 14, when the concert will take the theme of her latest album, Circus, which is released next week.

Tickets for the dates go on general sale on Friday, December 5, although fans will be able to buy them 24 hours earlier if they register on her website.

According to Rob Hallett, of tour promoter AEG, the concerts promise to be “very special”, with “a musical circus” complete with “jugglers, dancers, tattooed ladies and acrobats” including in the musical spectacular.

Tickets are certain to sell like hot cakes, as – according to Mr Hallett – the two dates are the only ones Spears has planned “for the forseeable future”.

Spears isn’t a great traveller, having last performed in the UK in 2004 when her Onyx Hotel tour took in Birmingham, Glasgow, Belfast, Manchester and London’s Wembley Arena.

In what is proving a busy time for the 26-year-old singer, Spears will also be in London this weekend to appear on ITV show The X-Factor, prior to which she’ll be attending the annual Bambi entertainment awards in Germany where she will pick up the award for best international pop star.
