Camden Crawl launches Emerging Talent Awards

Story by Jack Foley

THE search officially begins today (January 18, 2010), for the hottest new talent at this year’s Camden Crawl.

Following three successful years as a vehicle supporting completely fresh talent, the Gaymers Camden Crawl re-launches its annual ‘Indie Idle’ competition as an all new talent recognition campaign entitled the Emerging Talent Awards in association with Rockfeedback.

The ETAs aim to identify the most gifted new artists in the UK across a variety of disciplines through a combination of popular vote and judged awards.

Artists may apply to enter the awards from today (January 18) through the dedicated ETA website and any band or solo performer will be eligible to enter provided that they are a new artist from the UK.

Each entrant will appear alphabetically on the site from mid February for short listing by public vote in three categories: Best New Band, Best New Solo Artist and Best Live Act.

The top 15 voted artists in each category will be announced on the site on March 15, leaving the ETA judging panel to select the final winners for each award, with the exception of the People’s Choice Award, from the 45 shortlisted artists.

The panel is to be comprised of music industry experts, including a producer/recording engineer, music journalist, radio DJ, record company A&R person, live promoter, booking agent and, of course, a member of each the Rockfeedback and Crawl teams.

The People’s Choice Award will instead be chosen by a second round of public voting, commencing March 15.

The final award winners will be announced approximately three weeks prior to the Gaymers Camden Crawl, which is scheduled to take place on May 1 and 2, 2010.

Each winner will be invited to play a 30-minute live set at the Emerging Talent Awards stage at Freedm Studios @ The Roundhouse on one of the two days of the event and will be presented with their award and prizes by a special guest host following their set in front of a packed Crawl audience.

Tickets for Gaymers Camden Crawl 2010 are on sale now and available from www.thecamdencrawl.com

The festival ticket, which is exchanged for a wristband on entry, allows unlimited access to all Crawl venues, after show parties and daytime activities and also includes a free download album, programme guide and magazine.

Initial line-ups will be announced from the end of January 2010.
