Canada Day London: Justin Nozuka on bill

Justin Nozuka

Story by Jack Foley

CANADA, that beautiful country just above America, is to be celebrated in the UK this summer with a day of events in London’s Trafalgar Square.

Taking place on Friday, June 29, the event aims to treat Londoners and Canadians alike to a free festival of food, music, sports and all kinds of entertainment.

The main stage in Trafalgar Square will be provide a platform for crowds to enjoy the music of Canadian artists such as Johnny Reid, Justin Nozuka (pictured), The Sam Roberts Band, Land of Talk and K’naan.

Other entertainment includes an Olympians demonstration of freestyle skiing and boarding, a street hockey tournament starring Canada’s Far North Dene band (originators of the first ice hockey game, against explorers on Great Bear Lake), penalty shoot-outs, First Nations dancing and drumming, fiddling, the RCMP (that’s Mounties to us) and Canuck eats.

Hell, there’ll even be the chance to experience a simulated ride over Niagara Falls, plus info and fun for kids.

And for one day only, visitors will get to taste a specially brewed Canada Day, London Canada Blast beer. What’s not to love (apart from some dodgy English weather?).

The day commences at noon, with the live band performances taking place from 5pm until 10pm.
