Story by Jack Foley

CELINE Dion is to play two UK concerts next year following the end of her five-year residency in Las Vegas.

The Canadian superstar will perform at Manchester’s MEN Arena on May 2, 2008, and London’s O2 Arena on May 6.

The shows form part of a world tour that begins in Johannesburg on Valentine’s Day (February 14) with a benefit concert for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund. Tickets go on sale on November 16.

Dion has played to three million people during her Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace but that will culminate on December 15 and she’s now preparing to release her first English-language album in more than three years next month, entitled Taking Chances.

Commenting on the past five years, Dion described the Vegas experience as “an incredibly rewarding experience for myself and my family” but confessed she was ready to hit the road again with husband and son by her side.

“We released a new French album several months ago, and a new English one is on the way, so it’s going to be exciting to perform these new songs with a brand new show, especially in front of the big audiences in stadiums and arenas,” she continued.

Dion has always enjoyed touring in Europe, describing fans there as “so passionate”. The world tour will therefore include some cities that she’s visited before, as well as a couple of venues that she’s never been to.

Demand for tickets is expected to be huge given the amount of time it’s been since fans have been able to see her outside of Vegas. Buy tickets now
