Damon Albarn to release Journey To The West (Monkey) LP

JOURNEY To The West, an album by Monkey, is due to be released in the UK this summer.

Created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, the team behind Gorillaz, Journey To The West is performed by both European and Chinese musicians and singers and produced by Damon Albarn.

The album is based on Monkey: Journey To The West, the opera which premiered at Manchester International Festival in 2007 and which will open at the Royal Opera House in London on Wednesday, July 23.

With lyrics based on ancient Chinese texts and performed in Mandarin, the album has been recorded in London and Beijing over the past 12 months.

The album opens with Monkey’s World, and into a Heavenly Peach Banquet, escorted by Monkey Bee and closes with the Disappearing Volcano.

With a running time of 50 minutes, Journey To The West consists of 22 instrumental and vocal tracks.
