COUNTRY legend Dolly Parton is to play this year’s Glastonbury musuc festival.

The booking was confirmed by festival organiser Emily Eavis during last night’s NME Awards (which were dominated by Arctic Monkeys).

The singer herself also revealed the news to her fans via Twitter, posting: “I’m incredibly excited to FINALLY announce that the #BlueSmokeWorldTour is coming to @GlastoFest on June 29th! ;) Stay tuned for more info…”

Parton will perform in Sunday afternoon’s renowned “legend slot” on The Pyramid Stage, which last year featured fellow country star Kenny Rogers.

Blondie, who also received an award at the NME event (Godlike Genius), also confirmed they will be playing Glastonbury. Deborah Harry told Metro: “We just heard today – we’re going to be doing Glastonbury.”

The securing of Parton marks a personal dream come true for Eavis who told BBC Radio Four’s Front Row programme that it had been something of a life mission for her.

Of the other acts performing at this year’s festival Arcade Fire confirmed they are 2014’s Friday night headliners back in December, while Lily Allen has also let slip she will be performing.
