Doves photo competition invites you to snap the band live

Doves

Story by Jack Foley

TO MARK the imminent arrival of their new single Winter Hill on July 6 Doves have launched a photograph competition through their official website whereby one lucky fan will win the opportunity to gain exclusive backstage and photo pit access to photograph the band on a forthcoming tour date.

According to Doves.net, the band is looking to compile a gallery of some of the best fan-taken photographs from the band’s recent UK and US tour dates.

So, if you’ve used your camera or mobile phone to capture a moment at a recent show then this is the competition for you.

They’re not necessarily looking for photos of the band playing live (see below), but rather photos that sum up the essence of going to a Doves gig.

So, if that’s a picture of you and your mates waiting with anticipation (and beer) for the gig to begin or of the crowd around you pogoing along to Pounding then that’s absolutely spot-on.

“What we’re planning to do is put together a gallery of images that best sum up the touring experience of Kingdom of Rust so far,” continues the website.

“But that’s not all. Oh, no. For Jimi, Jez & Andy will then pick one single image which they like the best and that lucky photographer will win the chance to photograph the band from the press pit and backstage on one of their forthcoming UK tour dates. How’s that for a competition prize? Pretty nifty, huh?!”

To enter the competition all fans need to do is send their photos (maximum of 5 photos per person) to the following email address (dovesphotocomp@googlemail.com).

Doves.net is not looking for the most professional shots. As long as it fills the oh-so-simple criteria of summing up the spirit of a Doves gig then it’s good for them

The competition closes on Sunday, July 12 at midnight.

The gallery of winning images will then be uploaded to the homepage of Doves.net on the week commencing July 13.

The winning photo – as selected by the band – will then be announced week-commencing July 20.

Entries have already begun arriving… and we’ve included this shot from Shoko Namihara as an example of what’s currently being submitted.
