Ed Sheeran and Emeli Sandé for Stephen Lawrence memorial concert
Story by Jack Foley
ED Sheeran and Emeli Sandé have been confirmed to play a memorial concert for Stephen Lawrence in London this September (2013).
They will be joined by Labrinth, Plan B, Jessie J, Tinie Tempah, Rudimental, Rizzle Kicks and Jamie Cullum at the special event at London’s O2 Arena on September 29.
The concert is in memory of Lawrence, who was murdered in a racially-motivated attack 20 years ago.
Stephen’s mother, Doreen and founder of the Lawrence Charitable Trust, said in a statement: “I would like Stephen to be remembered as a young man who had a future. He was well loved, and had he been given the chance to survive maybe he would have been the one to bridge the gap between black and white because he didn’t distinguish between black or white. He saw people as people.”
Of the concert itself, she added: “Justice for Stephen is about all of us, every one of us, in society having justice. I want young people to feel inspired, be confident and have hope in their own future.”
Tickets go on sale on Friday, June 21 at 9am and further additions to the line-up will be announced in the coming weeks.
