Elbow announce Wembley Arena gig (2009)

Story by Jack Foley

FRESH from their Mercury Music success, Elbow have announced their largest ever UK date at London’s Wembley Arena on Friday, March 14, 2009.

The show marks another step forward for the band, whose current album, The Seldom Seen Kid, has been one of the critical and commercial highlights of the year and which won them the Nationwide Mercury Music Prize on September 9, 2008.

The band have always been clear in their ambition to play large scale shows and this date signifies another milestone in their 10-year recording and touring career.

Festival shows at Glastonbury and Latitude were regarded as some of the highlights of the summer by fans and critics alike whilst their Royal Festival Hall show as part of Massive Attack’s Meltdown is still garnering praise months after the event.

With these shows in mind, Elbow are planning something very special for this, their first arena show in the UK.

Tickets have been on sale since Tuesday, September 30 and are priced at £20 and £22.50 (subject to booking fee).
