Elbow to release limited edition Seldom Seen Kid live

Story by Jack Foley

ON SATURDAY, January 17, 2009, at the world famous Abbey Road studios in London, Elbow performed the entirety of their Mercury Music Prize winning album The Seldom Seen Kid with the BBC Concert Orchestra and Chantage, the winners of Radio 3’s Choir Of The Year competition.

The unique performance of the album was seen by a select audience and is broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on the evening of Saturday, January 31.

The show also saw the band play new and exclusive versions of the songs from the album in order. They were joined (as on the album) by Richard Hawley for The Fix.

And the good news, following that gig, is that The Seldom Seen Kid Live At Abbey Road is now available to buy as a limited edition package exclusively through the band’s website at

The package includes not only a CD, but also a DVD of the entire show alongside four postcard portraits of the band in Studio One at Abbey Road, and an album booklet containing exclusive photos.

Orders have been taken since January 29 with copies due to be sent out in March. This version of The Seldom Seen Kid will be limited to direct orders only and no copies will be available in the shops.
