Emeli Sande beats The Beatles chart record
Story by Jack Foley
EMELI Sande has beaten a chart record set by The Beatles for the most consecutive weeks in the UK’s Official Albums Chart Top 10 of any debut album.
Our Version Of Events was released in February 2012 and hasn’t dropped out of the Top 10 since then. It has been in the UK’s Official Albums Chart for 63 weeks.
The achievement means that the 26-year-old singer has overtaken The Beatles, who previously held the record for almost 50 years with Please Please Me, which spent 62 weeks inside the Top 10 between 1963 and 1964.
Our Version Of Events has sold 1.82 million copies in the UK and was Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart for 10 weeks. It was last year’s biggest selling album and boasts the single Next To Me, which was the third most played pop song of 2012, according to data released by the UK music licensing company PPL.
