Eryka Badu

Story by Jack Foley

MULTI-platinum-selling, Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter/actress Erykah Badu is to play London’s Brixton Academy on Monday, June 30, 2008.

Tickets cost £32.50 and are on sale now.

Badu, whose five-million selling 1997 debut album Baduizm established the Dallas native as one of the most exciting and original artists to emerge from soul music for many years, released her latest album on March 3, entitled New Amerykah.

The release of the LP marks the 10-year anniversary of the release in 1997 of Badu’s hugely influential debut which, alongside D-Angelo’s Brown Sugar, ushered in a new era for American soul music.

On New Amerykah, Erykah has enlisted some of the most talented, groundbreaking underground producers in the hip-hop game to support her breakthrough return, including Grammy Award winning producer 9th Wonder (Jay-Z, Nas, Mary J. Blige), Madlib, Mike “Chav” Chavarria and R&B singer Bilal.

A special, extremely limited 12-inch pink wax edition is also available for DJS and will feature album tracks, The Healer and Real Thing.

“The music is the star,” says Erykah. “I just laid down my vocals and let the music breathe while the melodies tell the stories.”
