Fields - All set for very green pastures?

Feature by Jack Foley

LONDON-based five-piece Fields could well be one of the name’s on everyone’s lips come the end of the summer.

Comprised of Nick Peill (vocals/guitar/keyboards), Thorunn Antonia (vocals/keyboards), Henry Spenner (drums/vocals), Matty Derham (bass/keyboards/vocals) and Jamie Putnam (guitar), the band specialise in blissful, harmony-coated songs that recall the shimmering brilliance of America’s Joy Zipper.

Fields release a new EP entitled 4 From The Village on July 10, through Black Lab. It will be available as a 12” and CD and features the tracks Brittle Sticks, produced by Jim Abiss (Arctic Monkeys/kasbian) and Heretic and Isabel produced by Dan Gretsch (Scissor Sisters).

4 From The Village is the follow-up to the band’s debut single, Song For The Fields released earlier this year, which received a round of applause and pats on the back all round from the press.

NME described them as “gorgeous four part harmonies that sound something like a rustic Arcade Fire”, while The Observer said: “A contender for song of the summer, all scrumptious harmonies and bittersweet lyrics.”

In-between catching some sun at this year’s festivals, the band plan to spend the summer months recording their debut album for release in early 2007.

Fields have spent most of the year touring with the likes of the Mystery Jets, Bloc Party, The Zutons, Spinto Band and The Editors.

The band will be supporting Larrikin Love on the following dates as well as playing the Carling Weekend Festival.

June 25 – June Fleece (Bristol)
June 26 – Night & Day(Manchester)
June 27 – King Tuts (Glasgow)
June 28 – Fibbers (York)
