Foals and Disclosure to co-headline Reading & Leeds Festivals

Story by Jack Foley

FOALS (pictured) and Disclosure have been announced as co-headliners for this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals in August.

They join previously announced headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers – with the third still to be revealed.

Foals have gone from strength-to-strength since the release of their fourth album, What Went Down last August.

Following a wealth of critical acclaim and two scintillating secret sets at Reading and Leeds (NME picked Foals as their #1 Best Moment of the Reading Festival 2015), the album hit the charts at #3 during a month-long run in the Top 20.

Shortly after the release of album, Foals collected the Q Award for Best Act in the World Today. As 2015 drew to a close, they were then nominated for British Artist of the Year at the BBC Music Awards on an all-star shortlist that also featured Adele, Ed Sheeran, Jamie XX, Florence + The Machine and Years & Years.

Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis told BBC’s Newsbeat: “It’s the biggest moment of our career.”

For Disclosure, not only is it their first UK headline slot, but also the first time a dance/electronic act has had that top billing since The Prodigy in 2002.

Festival Republic Managing Director and organiser of both festivals, Melvin Benn commented: “I couldn’t be more excited about this announcement. A co-headline with two of the most promising British acts out there; Foals’ secret set last year was a highlight for me, as I’m sure their debut headline slot will be, coupled with the phenomenal Disclosure – we’re very proud to be able to give these acts the recognition they deserve.”

The festival takes place from August 26 to 28, 2016.
