Genesis confirm European tour dates (2007)

Genesis

Story by Jack Foley

GENESIS have confirmed that they are to tour for the first time in 15 years next year, including a night at Twickenham Stadium.

The reformed band will boast a line-up of Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford – but not original singer Peter Gabriel or guitarist Steve Hackett. They will, however, be joined by long time Genesis sidemen Chester Thompson on drums and Daryl Stuermer on guitar.

The schedule for the European tour was announced at a London press conference on November 7, 2006, when it was revealed that the dates will support a series of album-reissues.

EMI is to reissue all 14 Genesis studio albums in three stages throughout 2007, starting with A Trick Of The Tail (1976), Wind & Wuthering (1977), ...And Then There Were Three… (1978), Duke (1980) and Abacab (1981) in March.

The tour is being dubbed the Turn It On Again tour – after one of their former hits – and will kick off on June 11 in Helsinki, before eventually finding its way to England for two dates on July 7 and 8 in London and Manchester respectively.

Speaking at the press conference, Phil Collins said that the decision to reform was something that had been on the cards for some time.

Friendships had been maintained and it just seemed like a good opportunity to get together again and hit the road. He added that Peter Gabriel had been approached but had reservations that his fellow band members understood.
